This weekend was pretty amazing.

Because my brother loves me (thanks Brian!), I was able to join in on the fun of both the Rockies game on Friday night and the Nuggets game on Saturday.

In the words of one of my students, PACHOW.

I love Denver for many reasons, but one of the biggest is all the sports teams.  I love going to games.  I love it.

So Friday I was lucky enough to see the Rockies win their game.  And eat nachos.  We love nachos.  (maybe i had nachos 3 times in a 24 hour period.  so what)

(sneaky pics of the parents back there...they had no idea)

And the rowdy crowd up front:

We make baseball games fun!

We also make Nuggets games fun, especially when we win:

Earth Day and the stars

What perfect timing for the Backstreet Boys to get their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?

Only natural for Earth day to be joined by the brightest star(s) in the land.

Sometimes, things just make sense.

I went to a math conference yesterday.  Well, probably better said a math education conference.  It is one place I never imagined myself in.

Growing up, I was never a math person.  I craved the humanities.  Math and science were just classes to be passed and formulas to memorize.  Give me an English class.  Truth be told, I never took a math class in college; I got out of it because French somehow fulfilled the requirement.  Dream come true.

Fast forward to current day and...I teach math.  I work with students who hate math.  We understand each other because we have a common enemy: fractions. linear equations. numbers.

I don't really hate it as much anymore.  And I actually like teaching it way more than I thought I would.  Now, fractions=fun! (kinda)

But let us go back to the math conference.

So many nerds in one place.

And they all love math SO MUCH.

We were volunteers so that meant we got a cool math t-shirt.  And we got to attend conferences with titles like "Fractions-The F word in Math".

You could write in a word to describe how you would "make math more _____" Naturally, I crossed out the re so mine would read 'mo betta'.  Most of the nerds wrote something like "aweΣ"

Other math signs that made me feel out of place.

More nerds.

Some coworkers who were really excited about some freebies we got.

...And the measurements of the giant blue bear outside of the Denver Convention Center.  Just in case you wanted to know what size pants to buy him.

All in all, it was a day to be remembered.
(BYU had a booth there and I got this sweatband for being an alumni.  Best freebie ever and also made me look really professional)

Hair and love

Today one of my students (you know the one-the gem who comments on my forehead and eyebrows) asked me if I was losing my hair.  Well actually he started the conversation by asking if women could go bald 'here', pointing to a particular location on his head.  Then he asked me if I was losing my hair.

Now I'm insecure about balding.  Thanks, kid.

But really I'm not.  I just had pulled my hair back and so it looked like I was balding.  And my hair wasn't washed in the previous 24 hours so maybe that also had something to do with it.  (my hair still isn't washed just so you know) (soon).

This kid.

I've realized I broke my promise of blogging every day for the month of April (i was doing so good, too!) but this weekend I just didn't and then yesterday I was too overwhelmed with emotions to write.  Boston tore me up a little bit inside, hurting my heart enough to not formulate a sufficient sentence.  I stared at my screen and wrote and deleted and repeated the cycle so many times last night, just because I couldn't figure out exactly what to write.

Ultimately, I remember that humanity is good.  That sometimes sucky things happen in the world and sometimes they change us drastically and sometimes we ignore the sadness because we can't handle it.  But mostly, those people who are around us every day, those people we pass by on the streets or in our cars-they don't wish any ill on us.  They're trying their best to live the best way they know how, and they hope the same for us.  And so the only way we can counter the negative is just simply to serve and love others.

Let's just love each other.

Sometimes I come to Utah and friends ad I cook dinner together.

Travel Tuesday? Maybe?

I've been thinking about England a lot recently.

I miss it.

I didn't love it every day that I was there, but it is a beautiful country.  I appreciate London a ton, but if you ever visit, make sure to get out of the city and see the real England.  The coastal towns.  The sheep.  The endless green countryside.  You can't beat it.  And take the bus as much as possible in the little towns.  The bus drivers were some of my favorite people around.

(ps: manchester is only good for its airport. i'd take it over heathrow)

With delicious fish and chips and all the crane games you could ever ask for.

And the York Minster.  I never got sick of you, Minster.

Let's plan a visit back, shall we?

Snow Day

I had Spring Break a couple weeks ago and I think I was more excited than I had ever been in my life.  I hadn't had a real Spring Break in years; probably since I was in school.  I was able to go on vacation and visit good friends (to be blogged, I'm sure), and most importantly, I didn't have to work.

The world has shined (...or the opposite) down on me again by giving me a snow day tomorrow.  A mere 8 days after our beloved Spring Break, we get a random day off because of one of Colorado's freak blizzards.

This makes me so happy.

There have been a couple days where I thought we would get a snow day, but to no avail.  So this time around I used the power of opposite thinking.  I spent the whole day telling myself that driving to work will suck tomorrow, and that it won't be worth it because half of the students won't even come if its snowing.

And it worked.  And we got our snow day.

My plans include: sleeping in, catching up on Project Runway, looking for a job/future plans, and maybe cleaning my bathroom.  And I am legitimately excited about each one of those things.

Oh April.  You and your icy, windy snow.  I love you so much right now.

(my work peeps.  i'll miss them so much tomorrow)

General Conference

The past two days have been full of candy.  And a couple naps.

And, most importantly, good words from honest-to-goodness servants of the Lord.

Twice a year we get to hang out and listen to guys (and girls) who inspire us and teach us how we can be better.  I love it the most because of the love you can feel from them (and straight from the big guys upstairs).  It is real and true and powerful.  You just feel good when you watch/listen/feel General Conference.

Check out the talks here.

Our Prophet Thomas S. Monson.

Just makes you want to be a better person, you know?

I feel inclined to talk about one particular Backstreet Boy today.

A.J. Mclean.

Homeboy has been balding for awhile now, but recently he's talked about how he got hair transplants.

Check this photo he shared:

This is real life.
Being a Backstreet Boy doesn't get much better than hair transplants and jean vests.

(ps bsb said they're 90% done with their new album. who is excited?!)
(besides me?)

Can't Wait

I am trying to keep my expectations reasonable, but I am really, really excited for May 26.

Hey Brothers

Sometimes I hang out with my brothers.
And we go to Nuggets games (thanks, Brian).

And the game turns out to be one of the best with only the most amazing last few seconds.  It was so good.

Also, sometimes we celebrate Spring Break by going to first dinner at Qdoba.  And OD'ing on queso.  Because it is the most delicious nectar in all the land.

Strong family resemblance, for sure.

(article found here)

No.  I'm going to say no.

(ok, so i just listened to one of her songs-homegirl goes by Awkwafina-and its kind of catchy (and inappropriate) but i'm still going to go with no)

Caveman duties

Today I've been thinking about what it would have been like living in caveman times.  I don't know the official time period name, so caveman times is what I will be using.  You know what I mean.

I've been specifically thinking about what it would have been like to figure out what things are good to eat and what things are not as good to eat.  As I was eating my banana this morning, I was basking in the glory of whomever decided to somehow open up a banana and eat it.  And then share it with all his/her caveman friends.

I'd like to think I would have been the cavewoman who sacrificed her undeveloped palate to eat various things and give them the go-ahead.

Bark-not good.
Rocks-too hard
Leaves/grass-not very good, but depends on the type
Deer-(yes, lets shoot this giant animal with an arrow and hope it doesn't attack)-love them burgers
Pineapple-(seriously, who thought of breaking one of those prickly guys open?)-fantastic
Ants-not worth the hassle

(confession: i think i actually have eaten everything on the above list, so opinions are tried and true)

But seriously, do you think someone had that job?  I'd do it.

In other news, anyone want to find me a job come June?  Thanks.

It's an April Fools miracle!

Omorosa got fired from Celebrity Apprentice!  I am the most happy.  I agree with Piers that she is not a real celebrity and that she sucks.

Also, I have a goal of posting every day this month. That might not happen, so don't get too excited, but I'm feeling it.  I have lots of good things to say about the world.

Like, I finally just watched the uncensored film of Kevin Ware's leg breaking...whaaattt??  Out.of.control.  The reaction of the guys on the bench is exactly how I felt watching it.  Poor Kev.  I would post a link to it, but you should really probably just not watch it.

Another thing: the guy from Glee checked himself into rehab?  What is this world coming to when we can't even love Glee characters anymore.  (ps i actually haven't liked glee since season 1.  it's too weird now).  Finn/Cory and his substance abuse.  I guess music doesn't always heal.

Sometimes, though, it does.  Recently it has in the form in Justin Timberlake's new album.  I dig it.  Not all the tracks, but most of them.  I, like much of the world, am a big lover of JT.

Finally, this is what I look like when I wake up.  Ya welcome, and welcome to April.

ps this is a good morning.  also, i am wearing clothes.
